Couple returns the fluffy Maine Coon that they bought for $4000 because she's deaf, the majestic feline then gets re-adopted by a worthy family: '[I'm going] to give her the forever home she deserves!'

Okay, so we know, as much as we love trashcan kitties, that there are some people out there who have the money and want to invest it in buying a "fancy" cat. We know it. And although we 100% believe that people should adopt cats and not shop for them, we do, on some level, kind of get it. Because we love rare cats too. We love Norwegian forest cats and all their floof. We love hairless sphynx cats in all of their uncooked-chicken-looking glory. And of course, we love the majestic Maine Coon cats. 

If we ever happened to be adopted by one of those breeds, or any other, we would be thankful for the honor bestowed upon us by the Cat Distribution System, and we would make sure to pamper these cats the way that they deserve to be pampered. Would we buy a cat like that? Most likely not. We would look to adopt one. Would we buy a cat like that for $4000? No. Would we return the beautiful cat that we bought for $4000 dollars because it turned out to be deaf? No chance in friggin' hell.

  • First of all, we have to say that $4000 is a huge amount of money when you could just… get a dumpster kitty or something. But fine. We may not like it, but we know that practices like these are something that happens. Returning a cat that cost $4000… that's beyond us.

    merztoller OP Seriously I can't wrap my head around how that was a deal breaker. She's literally so loving and laid back. The only "issue" if you could even call it that is that she meows REALLY loud sometimes because she can't hear herself lol but it's really only if you leave the room and she can't see you anymore.

    CommunityChance521 I have a deaf dsh. He is such a sweetheart and so cute in his mannerisms. Also loves for you to vacuum him with the hose. I always find myself talking to him lol. I tap him when I put his soft food out lets him know it's ready. I'm actually glad the person gave Valentine up they don't deserve her! She deserves so much more. I'm sure she's going to have a very loving home.

    merztoller OP I was shocked because when I went to pick her up, I asked what her name was and the lady gave me a look and was like "does it matter? She can't hear you anyway" but I've been talking to her and she maybe can't hear me but I'm sure the love and intention is still felt

    rubenff I had a deaf cat before, he crossed over the bridge at 14yo (nearly 26 years ago)! He was one of the kindest most cuddly cats I've ever had! If they had birthed a deaf kid would they try to return it too??? Savages!!! She's a beauty and I'm jealous!

    merztoller OP It honestly has been nice so far, she's not startled by my dogs barking or other loud noises. If she's cute and sleeping, I can snag a photo without accidentally waking her haha

  • There is a part of us that wants to know whether they ever got their money back or not. This new owner didn't have to pay a dime. Maybe it's vindictive, but we hope that they didn't get a refund. Maybe that way, fewer people will want to buy cats in these situations, and then the demand for a practice like this will go down.

    merztoller OP She's decently big but it's 90% fluff! She's quite small under all that, definitely weighs less than my tabby. I was told she's about a year. I can definitely update when she's in her forever home!

    alpengiest She was returned because she is deaf!?!? TF!??????? I hope her previous owners never own another pet. That speaks volumes about the type of people they are. If anything I would've mentioned it to the breeder and maybe ask for a little bit back, but definitely not return her

    merztoller OP I think her meowing very loudly at night was part of the reason, but I'll never know the full story. I'm like if she's crying at night just let her sleep in your room? She's a chatty gal but it's only happy chatter when she's around you.

    merztoller OP She's going to be very spoiled for the rest of her life and have all the attention she could ever want. She's going to my best friend who works from home and has two young kids and two other kitties so she will have many friends to choose from!
